Maison Alhambra Delilah Viola 100ml: The Notes, and What That Floral Heart Is Made Of

Maison Alhambra Delilah Viola is a 100ml eau de parfum, built as a fruity floral. Pear and peach lead the opening over citrus. A powdery floral heart follows. Cream, vanilla and clean musk carry the finish.

The interesting part sits in that heart. Three of its four flowers never come from the plant at all. One of them had the molecule behind it banned across the European Union in 2022.

Maison Alhambra Delilah Viola: the short version

  • What it is: Maison Alhambra Delilah Viola comes as a 100ml eau de parfum, fruity floral, soft and creamy rather than sharp.
  • Smells like: Juicy pear and peach over a powdery floral heart, landing on vanilla and clean musk.
  • Notes verified from: Two independent retailers listing identically, note for note.
  • Gender: Most shops list it for women. At least one lists it unisex, and the composition supports either reading.
  • Best for: Spring and daytime. Office-safe rather than loud.

Maison Alhambra DELILAH VIOLA Fragrance Notes:

  • Top Notes: Pear, Mandarin Orange, Bergamot, Peach.
  • Middle Notes: Lilac, Violet, Lily of the Valley, Lavender.
  • Base Notes: White Musk, Cream, Sandalwood, Patchouli, Vanilla.

Two independent retailers publish the Maison Alhambra Delilah Viola list identically, which is good corroboration. Maison Alhambra does not maintain a public product page for it, so no brand-level listing exists to check against.

What Maison Alhambra Delilah Viola smells like

The opening is juicy without being sugary. Pear and peach carry most of it. Mandarin and bergamot keep a citrus edge underneath, so the fruit stays bright rather than jammy.

Then it turns powdery. Violet and lilac give that soft, slightly dusty floral character, and lily of the valley adds a green dewiness. Underneath them the lavender provides a faint herbal lift that most fruity florals skip.

The base is the commercial part. Cream and vanilla make it soft, and white musk keeps it clean and close to the skin. Sandalwood with patchouli stops it from turning purely sweet. Delilah Viola ends up comfortable rather than distinctive, which is exactly what this category sells on.

The lily of the valley here cannot be the one your mother wore

Lily of the valley gives no essential oil. The flower yields nothing to distillation or solvent extraction, so perfumers have always built the muguet note out of other materials. That much has never changed.

What changed is which materials. For decades European perfumery leaned on hydroxycitronellal, and later on a molecule called butylphenyl methylpropional, sold as Lilial. Lilial became the workhorse because it delivered a fresh, lightly powdery floral lift that made whole bouquets read brighter.

The European Union then banned it. Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2021/1902 added Lilial to Annex II of the Cosmetics Regulation as entry 1666. From 1 March 2022, no cosmetic containing it could legally go on sale in the EU. The classification behind that decision was reproductive toxicant, category 1B.

Perfumers rebuilt the note from newer materials instead. Those include Florosa from BASF, Lilflore and Hivernal from Firmenich, and Dupical and Nympheal from Givaudan.

So the lily of the valley in Maison Alhambra Delilah Viola is necessarily a post-2022 construction. Anything sold legally in Europe now has to be. If you remember muguet smelling a particular way from twenty years ago and this does not match, the regulation is the reason, not the price.

Named after a flower that gives no oil

Viola is violet, and violet flowers are in the same position. No commercial absolute is produced from the blossom. The note comes from ionones, a family of aroma molecules that deliver that powdery, slightly woody sweetness people recognise as violet.

Lilac is the third in the same category, with no commercial extract behind it either. Of the four flowers in this heart, lavender is the only one that arrives as a genuine distilled oil. The perfume is named after the one flower in it that has never existed as an ingredient.

Where Viola sits in the Delilah line

Maison Alhambra runs Delilah as a family rather than a single release. Delilah, Delilah Pour Femme and Delilah Blanc all sit alongside this one on retailer shelves. Those names give a buyer almost nothing to work with.

Maison Alhambra Delilah Viola is the one defined by its heart. The violet and lilac give it a powdery character that separates it from the rest of the family. A pear-led opening makes it the fruitiest of them.

Treat the line name as branding and the note list as the specification. That holds across most Gulf houses now, where a successful name gets extended until it stops meaning anything.

Who Maison Alhambra Delilah Viola suits

Anyone wanting a soft fruity floral for daytime. Maison Alhambra Delilah Viola is deliberately inoffensive. That is a feature rather than a criticism, because it makes the fragrance wearable where something heavier would not be.

The powdery heart pushes it slightly older than a pure fruity sweet. It suits someone who finds candy gourmands juvenile but does not want a serious floral either. Spring and mild weather flatter it most.

Look elsewhere if you want projection or a signature. Clean musk bases stay close to the skin by design, and this one is built to be pleasant rather than memorable.

Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about shipping, authenticity, and caring for your fragrance.

01 Does it contain the banned ingredient Lilial?
No cosmetic sold legally in the European Union has contained it since 1 March 2022. Any muguet note in a current EU-market fragrance uses newer materials.
02 How is it different from the other Delilah fragrances?
Maison Alhambra runs several Delilah releases. Viola is the fruity floral with a powdery violet heart, which is what separates it from the others in the line.
03 What does viola mean in the name?
Viola is violet. The note is built from ionones rather than extracted from the flower, because violet blossoms yield no commercial absolute.
