Lattafa Qaaed 100ml: What It Smells Like
Lattafa Qaaed is a 100ml eau de parfum that smells spiced, warm and softly sweet. Cinnamon, cardamom and bergamot open it. Then saffron, carnation, sandalwood and cedar fill the middle. Finally oud, leather, amber and vanilla close it.
The name suggests an oud fragrance. In practice this is a spice fragrance with oud underneath it, and knowing that first makes it much easier to judge.
The short version
- What it is: A 100ml eau de parfum, worn by men and women.
- Smells like: Warm baking spice, then dry spiced wood, then oud with leather and vanilla.
- Character: Rich and formal. Leans masculine without being closed to anyone.
- Wear it: Autumn and winter, evenings, formal occasions, cold weather.
- Important: Spice leads this, not oud. The oud is in the base.
Lattafa QAAED Fragrance Notes:
- Top Notes: Cinnamon, Cardamom, Bergamot.
- Middle Notes: Saffron, Sandalwood, Cedar, Carnation.
- Base Notes: Agarwood (Oud), Vanilla, Leather, Amber.
Eleven notes, which is a full composition rather than a sketch. The shape runs spice, then spiced wood, then warm sweetness.
Carnation deserves the attention. It was a staple of classic perfumery and has largely gone out of fashion. So finding it in a modern oud is genuinely unusual. It smells of clove and pepper with a floral edge.
Saffron is worth a line as well. In perfume it does not smell of the cooking spice at all. Instead it reads leathery and slightly bitter, which is why it sits so naturally next to the leather in the base.
What Lattafa Qaaed smells like
Cinnamon and cardamom open it together. Cinnamon is the warm baking kind rather than anything hot, while cardamom is dry, green and slightly camphorous. Bergamot brightens both without turning the opening citrusy.
Then the middle brings in the interesting part. Saffron is leathery and faintly medicinal, sandalwood is creamy and milky, and cedar adds a dry pencil-shaving edge.
Carnation sits alongside them and it is the note most people will not recognise. It smells peppery and clove-like with a soft floral edge, so it reads as another spice rather than as a flower. Because of it, the heart stays spiced instead of going woody too early.
Finally the base turns warm and sweet. Oud arrives smooth rather than smoky, leather adds a dry animal warmth, and amber and vanilla round everything off. Lattafa Qaaed finishes comfortable and close to the skin.
Why Lattafa Qaaed is more spice than oud
Because of where the materials sit. Cinnamon and cardamom are in the top, saffron and carnation in the heart, and oud does not appear until the base.
That ordering decides what you smell first and for longest. Top and heart notes dominate the first couple of hours. So for most of the wear this is a spiced woody fragrance rather than an oud one.
Four of the eleven notes are spices, too, if you count carnation as one. Nothing in the list works against them either, since sandalwood and cedar are both dry and supportive rather than loud.
However, the oud does arrive properly. It is the destination rather than the journey. Even then it arrives smooth and sweet rather than the smoky oud some people expect from the word.
Qaaed or Opulent Oud?
Both are Lattafa ouds from 2018 and they share four notes: saffron, cinnamon, oud and amber. They still smell clearly different.
Lattafa Qaaed is the spicier and sweeter one. Cardamom and carnation widen the spice, while vanilla and leather in the base make the finish warm and soft rather than austere. So it suits formal evenings and cold weather.
Opulent Oud is the darker and simpler one. It leads on rose with oud, and with only six notes it stays tighter and more traditional. That makes it the better choice if you want a classic rose and oud.
Pick Qaaed for spice and warmth. Pick Opulent Oud for rose and restraint.
Who should buy Lattafa Qaaed, and who should not
Buy it if you want a warm spiced fragrance for the cold half of the year. The cardamom and cinnamon opening is genuinely rich, and the vanilla and leather base keeps it comfortable rather than harsh.
It also works well as a first oud. Because the oud arrives smooth and late, there is none of the smoky sharpness that puts people off the material.
Do not buy it expecting a heavy oud. Spice leads this fragrance, so anyone wanting oud from the first spray should look at a more traditional composition.
Skip it too if you dislike cinnamon or clove-like notes. Cinnamon opens it and carnation carries the middle, so that spiced character runs through almost the whole wear.
