Lattafa Thouq is a rose and incense eau de parfum from the Pride collection, launched in 2022 and sold in an 80 ml bottle. Bergamot and litchi open it, rose and incense form the heart, and amber and vetiver close it.

That is the entire formula on paper. Six notes, where most fragrances on the same shelf list ten or more, and the shortness is not laziness. It is what makes this one legible.

What does Lattafa Thouq smell like?

The opening of Lattafa Thouq is brief and fruity. Bergamot gives it a bitter edge, litchi rounds that off, and the pair reads soft rather than sharp. Within minutes the rose is already there.

Rose and incense are the fragrance. The rose is deep and slightly jammy rather than fresh or dewy, and the incense sits under it as a dry smoke that stops it turning sweet.

Amber carries the weight from there. Vetiver keeps it from going soft, adding a rooty dryness that reads more serious than warm.

What is incense in perfume?

Incense on a note list almost always means frankincense, the resin of Boswellia trees. Harvesters cut the bark and let the sap bleed and harden into lumps called tears, which are then distilled or burned whole.

People have burned it for thousands of years. Until 2016, nobody knew which molecule gave Lattafa Thouq and every other incense fragrance that particular smell.

A team led by Nicolas Baldovini at Nice answered that question and published it that year. Two molecules, cis and trans olibanic acid, carry the dry old-church character everyone recognises.

They are almost absent from the resin. The acidic fraction holding them makes up around two tenths of one percent of the essential oil, and the team refined three kilograms of oil to isolate a single milligram.

Most of the compounds identified in frankincense before then turned out to be odourless or to smell of something else entirely. In Lattafa Thouq that trace smokiness is what stops the rose from being only a rose.

Why does Lattafa Thouq smell so strong?

Count the notes against its own stablemates. Hayaati Gold Elixir lists ten. Hayaati Florence lists nine. Thouq lists six.

A perfumer working with six materials can dose each one far harder than a perfumer splitting the same budget fifteen ways. Nothing has to make room for anything else.

That is why the accords come out so definite. Amber, rose and smoke arrive at full strength instead of competing, and the result carries across a room.

The trade-off is development. Crowded pyramids change through the day, and this one does not. Judge Lattafa Thouq in the first ten minutes, because it will not turn into something else later.

How long does Lattafa Thouq last?

Amber and vetiver are both slow materials and they make up the whole base. Only the bergamot and litchi move quickly, which is why the rose arrives within minutes.

Cool weather suits it. Incense and amber both gain weight in heat, and summer pushes the smoke forward faster than most people want.

Who should buy Lattafa Thouq?

Buy it if you want a rose that is not pretty. The incense and vetiver pull it towards something older and drier, closer to a room where bakhoor has been burning than to a bouquet.

Skip it if you want a fragrance that unfolds. This one states itself and holds, and people who enjoy watching a scent change will find it flat by the third hour.

Skip it too if smoke bothers you. Smoky is the third strongest accord wearers report, and no amount of rose covers it.
