Armaf Club de Nuit Elite: The Pepper That Is Really a Citrus

Armaf Club de Nuit Elite is an eau de parfum added to the Club de Nuit line in 2026. Sichuan pepper and green tea open it over bergamot, May rose and geranium fill the heart, and vetiver, cedarwood and cashmeran hold the base.

Armaf files it as citrus-aromatic. Wearers vote it woody. Both are correct, and the reason sits in a top note that is sold as a spice while belonging to the citrus family.

What does Club de Nuit Elite smell like?

The opening of Club de Nuit Elite is cold rather than warm. Sichuan pepper leads with something close to grapefruit zest, pink pepper adds a dry fizz behind it, and bergamot fills in underneath.

Green tea and apple arrive within minutes. The tea is dry and faintly bitter, the apple tart rather than sweet, and together they take the edge off the pepper.

Geranium runs the middle alongside the rose and it is the greener of the two, pulling the flower away from anything romantic. Blackcurrant adds a sour thread underneath.

From there Club de Nuit Elite settles. Vetiver stays rooty and dry, cedarwood keeps it sharp, and cashmeran smooths the lot into a soft woody skin scent that holds for the rest of the wear.

Is Sichuan pepper actually a pepper?

No. Sichuan pepper is the dried fruit husk of Zanthoxylum species, and those belong to Rutaceae, the citrus family. The plant is a nearer relative of a lemon tree than of the black pepper vine.

That botany decides the smell. Perfumers describe the extract as a sharp citrus burst, closer to grapefruit zest than to any warm spice. Something metallic and cold runs through the middle of it. 

It also explains Armaf's own label. Bergamot is the only citrus on the list, yet the brand files Club de Nuit Elite as citrus-aromatic, because the Sichuan pepper is doing citrus work under a spice name. 

The tingle it causes in food is not a smell. A compound called hydroxy-alpha-sanshool triggers the skin's vibration receptors at around fifty hertz, the same nerves that read texture. You feel that rather than smell it. What a fragrance borrows from the husk is the bright metallic citrus, not the buzz.

What is cashmeran in Perfumery? 

In Perfumery Cashmeran is one molecule, and it is named after a fabric. The word is a portmanteau built on cashmere to suggest softness. That makes it a rare case of a note named for how something feels rather than how it smells.

A chemist named John B. Hall patented it in 1969. It went into laundry detergent first and stayed there for roughly a decade before perfumers moved it into fine fragrance in the late 1980s. The same molecule now sits in the base of Club de Nuit Elite.

One molecule covers four jobs. It reads woody but smoothed down, musky like warm skin, faintly spicy in the way distant black pepper is, and balsamic somewhere between old paper and vanilla.

That range is why cashmeran decides how Club de Nuit Elite ends. Typical doses run between a tenth of a percent and two percent. At that level it does the work of several materials without announcing itself as any of them.

How long does Club de Nuit Elite last?

Every material in the base is a slow one: vetiver and cedarwood for dryness, cashmeran and amber for body, musk to hold it together. The pepper and the citrus leave first, which is why the rose shows up early.

Mild weather suits it best. A sharp green opening reads well in spring and autumn. The dry base also keeps it usable in a shared office, which is not true of the sweeter releases in this line.

Spray normally. Club de Nuit Elite is built on dry woods rather than resins, so a third spray does not punish the room the way a heavy amber would.

Which Club de Nuit should you buy?

Armaf sells more than ten fragrances under the Club de Nuit name, and shoppers order the wrong one constantly. The one most people mean is Intense Man, the 2015 eau de toilette that built the line.

The two share five notes: bergamot, apple, blackcurrant, rose and musk. That overlap is where the similarity stops.

Intense Man leads on citrus, fruit, leather and smoke, with pineapple on top and birch, patchouli and vanilla underneath. Club de Nuit Elite has no pineapple, no birch and no vanilla, and it leads on wood, fresh spice and rose.

Buy Club de Nuit Elite as its own thing. This is a new composition rather than a flanker, and anyone ordering it expecting the older bottle will send it back.
