Riiffs Momento Liquid Gold 100ml: The Real Note List, and What Is Actually In It

Riiffs Momento Liquid Gold is a 100ml extrait de parfum released in 2026, worn by men and women. Blackberry and citrus open it. Praline, roasted tonka and two speciality materials fill the middle. Woods, musk and a third speciality material close it.

Two different note lists for this fragrance circulate online, and one of them belongs to a different perfume. The list below is the one three independent sources agree on.

Riiffs Momento Liquid Gold: the short version

  • What it is: A 100ml extrait de parfum from 2026, gourmand and woody rather than the oriental the name suggests.
  • Smells like: Juicy dark berry and blood orange over praline and roasted tonka, drying down woody and musky.
  • Notes verified from: The Fragrantica pyramid, matched by two independent retailers.
  • Unusual for the price: Four of its listed notes name trademarked perfumery materials, not flowers or fruits.
  • Relationship to Momento: A flanker of Momento from 2025, but not the same composition.

Riiffs MOMENTO LIQUID GOLD Fragrance Notes:

  • Top Notes: Blood Orange, Blackberry, Tangerine, Bergamot, Mandarin.
  • Middle Notes: Tonka Bean, Mahonial, Praline, Pomarose.
  • Base Notes: Akigalawood, White Musk, Sylkolide, Cedar.

Three sources publish the Riiffs Momento Liquid Gold note list: the Fragrantica entry and two independent retailers. Some retailers omit Sylkolide and otherwise match, which is a transcription gap rather than a disagreement.

What Riiffs Momento Liquid Gold smells like

The opening is dark fruit and citrus together. Blackberry gives the depth, blood orange and tangerine supply the sweetness, and bergamot and mandarin keep an edge of bitterness underneath so it does not read as juice.

The middle of Riiffs Momento Liquid Gold turns gourmand. Praline and roasted tonka bean bring a nutty, caramelised sweetness, while the two speciality materials alongside them add a dried-fruit and soft-floral lift that stops the sugar from flattening out.

Then it goes woody. Cedar and the peppery, patchouli-leaning base material pull it dry, and the musks hold the whole thing close to the skin. Sweet at the front, dry at the back, which is the shape most modern gourmands aim for.

Half this note list is trademarked

Most note lists name things that grow. This one does not. Mahonial, Pomarose, Akigalawood and Sylkolide name registered perfumery materials. A fragrance house developed and owns each one, and no plant produces any of them.

The trade calls these captives. A fragrance house that invents a new material can patent the molecule. Nobody can patent a perfume formula, but the material inside it is another matter. Keeping it in-house means rivals cannot reproduce the effect, so the captive protects the perfume by proxy.

Naming them on the box is the interesting decision. A house writing amber, musk and woods tells a buyer nothing, because those words cover hundreds of materials. Riiffs Momento Liquid Gold names four specific ones, and that is more information than most fragrances at any price disclose.

That changes how the list should be read. No fruit or flower sits behind these four words. Each one is a manufactured material with its own smell, and three of them are worth knowing individually.

Mahonial, and why a 2026 muguet is new

Mahonial is a Givaudan material, chemically (4E)-9-hydroxy-5,9-dimethyl-4-decenal, and it delivers a soft floral lift in the lily-of-the-valley direction. Perfumers describe it as a replacement for two older materials, Lyral and Lilial.

The European Union banned Lilial from 1 March 2022 as a reproductive toxicant, and that is why the material matters here. Lily of the valley yields no essential oil, so the note has always been built from synthetics, and when the workhorse synthetic was prohibited the whole accord had to be rebuilt.

Mahonial is one of the materials that filled the gap. Finding it inside Riiffs Momento Liquid Gold puts that reformulation story in a real bottle rather than an abstraction.

Akigalawood is made from patchouli waste

Akigalawood came out of Givaudan's biotechnology laboratory in Switzerland in 2014. Enzymes from a fermentation process act on patchouli oil residues, converting leftover material into something new that smells spicy and woody, with peppery facets and a character close to both patchouli and agarwood.

Givaudan classes it as a natural complex mixture rather than a single molecule, which is an unusual position for a trademarked material. It is upcycled waste and a registered speciality at the same time, and in this composition it is doing the job oud would do in a traditional Gulf formula.

Pomarose, in the heart of Riiffs Momento Liquid Gold, is a captive too, giving a fruity rose with apple, plum and raisin facets. Sylkolide is a speciality musk. Between them they explain the dried-fruit sweetness and the soft, clean finish.

Liquid Gold is not a repackaged Momento

The original Momento launched in 2025 on a different structure entirely: sugar, saffron and mandarin, then tonka, damask rose and agarwood, closing on caramel, amberwood and cedar. That is an oriental rose-oud composition.

Liquid Gold shares the tonka and the cedar and almost nothing else. Blackberry, citrus, praline and a set of speciality woods and musks make a fruity gourmand, which is a different fragrance wearing a related name.

The confusion starts there. Several write-ups assumed a flanker must reuse the original's juice, and published the 2025 note list under the 2026 name. If you have seen saffron, rose and oud listed for Riiffs Momento Liquid Gold, you have seen the original's pyramid by mistake.
