Each one carries a different facet. Gamma-decalactone reads as fuzzy peach skin, delta-decalactone as cool cream, and gamma-nonalactone as waxy coconut.

The ring size decides the direction. Five-membered gamma lactones lean fruity, six-membered delta lactones lean creamy and fatty, which is why a perfumer picks between them rather than treating them as one material.
